Iron ore delivered to Zelezara Smederevo

The first barge Karlovac loaded with about 10,000 tonnes of iron ore from Ukraine, which is necessary to restart production at Zelezara Smederevo steelworks, has arrived at the Port of Smederevo, Dusanka Rankovic, the steel mill's spokesperson, told Tanjug news agency Tuesday.

She said that production at Zelezara Smederevo was expected to be restarted in the second half of April. Reloading of raw materials from from the port has already begun, trucks are arriving at Zelezara Smederevo, while other two barges, Karadjordje and Kumanovo, should reach the port by Wednesday morning, she noted.

Once the remaining two barges arrive, the steel mill will have enough raw materials for 45 days of production, and we are in the process of acquiring more raw materials, Rankovic added. According to her, all preparations required to begin production at the steelworks are already completed.

Rankovic reiterated that production at Zelezara Smederevo had been temporarily discontinued on 7 July 2012.
