Production at Zelezara Smederevo steelworks starts April

President of the United Regions of Serbia and Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said on April 3rd in Kovin that the first blast furnace in the nearby steel mill in Smederevo would be fired up as early as April, which would lead to the restart of production at that economic giant.

- Not only will 5,000 people return to work, but Zelezara Smederevo will also hire 250 new workers - said Dinkic.

As Sasa Colic, a representative of the Association of Free and Independent Trade Unions (ASNS) in Zelezara Smederevo, told Beta news agency Thursday, over 6,000 people have applied for 250 new jobs.

He said that their applications would be processed as of next week.
