(YDC in Valjevo)

The Norwegian government will provide over EUR 3.2 million to finance the improvement of the quality of accommodation and capacity of the Youth Detention Center (YDC) in Valjevo, it was announced on the Serbian government's website.

A Protocol on the implementation of that project was signed Friday (15 March 2013) between Serbian Minister of Justice and Public Administration Nikola Selakovic and CEO of International Management Group Egidio Dino Biciato.

After signing that document in the Serbian government, Selakovic expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Norway, whose government is funding the project worth €3,219,039.

Serving a sentence has no purpose without quality facilities and capacity to live and work there, he said.

Given that juveniles who have committed a crime are a particularly sensitive part of the population, it is necessary to apply all European standards in this area, said Selakovic.

Biciato expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration for constant and successful cooperation in the implementation of projects in the field of justice.

Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia Nils Ragnar Kamsvag said that that project was part of a broader program - Improving Access to Justice in Serbia, financed by the Kingdom of Norway.
