DINKIC: IMF Mission in Belgrade on May 8th

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission is coming to Belgrade on May 8th, Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic announced today.

One of the topics for discussion will be negotiations on a new arrangement between the IMF and Serbia, Dinkic told the press in the Serbian parliament.

- Negotiations with the IMF Mission should last for two weeks and if they end in a success, we should enter into an arrangement by end-June - said Dinkic.

He added that the government would also talk with the IMF Mission about Serbia's medium-term economic and fiscal measures.

- Our aim is to stop the growth of public debt this year and to reduce it the next year - Dinkic assessed.

According to him, Serbia does not need money from the IMF either for the budget or for FX reserves.

- We need the IMF to improve our credibility so we could lower the interest rates and to help us come up with structural reforms to implement over the medium term - said Dinkic.
