RATEL proposes postponing launch of local number portability until April 2014

Republic Agency for Electronic Communications (RATEL) has submitted a proposal to fixed telephony operators in Serbia for the postponement of the launch of local number portability until April 2014, Beta news agency reported Monday.
According to that proposal, Telekom Srbija should begin the phased implementation of that project on 1 October 2013 and finish it by 31 March 2014.
Application of the regulations on local number portability was supposed to commence 1 December 2012, but it was postponed because Telekom Srbija, which holds the largest share of the Serbian fixed telephony market, was not ready for that.
RATEL CEO Milan Jankovic confirmed to Beta that a proposal had been sent to fixed telephony operators and that their response was expected within the next two or three days, but he also stressed that he could not unveil more details before the consultations were completed.
Aside from Telekom Srbija, fixed telephony services in Serbia are also provided by SBB, Telenor and Orion Telekom.
