On Monday (4 February 2013), the Serbian government approved a EUR 1.8 million interest-free loan to the national broadcasting corporation Radio Televizija Srbije (RTS), government officials told Tanjug news agency after their session.

RTS CEO Aleksandar Tijanic asked the Serbian government in early December 2012 to finance that public service with EUR 3 million a month.

He also said on that occasion that the new government, like all previous governments, had left RTS without a solution to the problem of funding.

- If the government refuses to lend us EUR 3 million a month over the next six months and fails to find a solution for stable funding, RTS will not survive by mid-February - said Tijanic.
