Volkswagen halts Passat production for four days

German car maker Volkswagen AG will halt production of its Passat model for four days at its Emden facility in Germany due to weak demand in Europe, a company spokesman said Wednesday, confirming newspaper reports.

The company will halt its Passat production lines February 8, 15, 22 and March 1, the spokesman said.

He stressed however that workers were just using up accumulated overtime instead of having work hours cut.

The auto maker's Golf model meanwhile is selling so well that Volkswagen last week said it will supplement shifts at one of its plants to produce an additional 2,000 Golfs in the first quarter.
