Novi Sad-Ruma highway construction to start by end-2013

Construction of the Novi Sad-Ruma highway should be expected to start by the year's end, Minister of Regional Development and Local Self-Government Verica Kalanovic announced.

She pointed out in a statement to Tanjug news agency that technical and project documentation for that regional highway had not been prepared yet, adding it would take nine months to draw plans and complete field survey.

A preliminary agreement was signed late last year, whereas an agreement specifying the duties of both sides will be signed by the end of February 2013, the minister reminded.

We won't be able to start the implementation of this project before the end of this year, when construction machines and people will be on the spot, said Kalanovic.

She invited the provincial government, City of Novi Sad, municipalities of Irig and Ruma to join the Serbian government in the work on that project.

If we work as partners, together and synchronized, on expropriation, issuing of permits, reorganization of the cadastre, the highway will be completed in 30 months, said Kalanovic.
