We can hope for new investments in the new year. Serbia may attract EUR 2.5 billion worth of foreign investments, most of which are expected to be made in the energy sector.

In 2013 Serbia will not have to sell its "family jewelry" after all because investments are coming. An investment agreement worth EUR 120 million was signed with Germany shortly before the New Year.

- The plan is to invest in the energy sector, water supply systems, EU integration activities, legal reforms and economic development. When it comes to the energy sector, investments will be made in Nikola Tesla Steam Power Plant and a power plant in Bajina Basta. As far as EU integration activities, legal reforms and economic development are concerned, we at GIZ have a project aimed at helping municipalities in eastern Serbia create the best possible business environment - says Aleksandar Graunauer from the German organization GIZ.

People at the Foreign Investment Agency say that Serbia could attract the total of EUR 2.5 billion worth of FDI in 2013.

- Aside from the energy sector, automotive, light, textile, leather and footwear and confectionery industries are also very interesting to investors, and so is the ICT sector, to our great pleasure - says SIEPA CEO Bozidar Laganin.
