Mercator's Managing Board has notified its Supervisory Board members of the intention to withdraw from the markets of Bulgaria and Albania, where modest economies still fail to ensure the volume of sales that could secure positive results, the Slovenian daily newspaper Delo writes.
One of the tasks that the Mercator Group set for itself in its medium-term plan is to focus on the core business in the following period in the five busiest markets: Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This move is a part of the anticrisis measures taken by the new management led by Toni Balazic. Members of the Managing and the Supervisory Board did not want to give any comment on that matter yesterday.
An issue that is yet to be discussed by the Supervisory Board at its next session is how to stop real estate monetization. Considering that the monetization process was started by the management led by Ziga Debeljak and that its accelerated implementation was later resumed by the current management, the information about the discontinuation of that process comes as a bit of surprise.
