Construction of tunnel 760 m long in Rakovica, no finances in budget for further construction of bypass around Belgrade ?

In the scope of the construction of bypass around Belgrade, the workers of "Energoprojekt- Niskogradnja" are building the tunnel in Rakovica, about 750 m long. So far, 260 m of the tunnel have already been built and paved. But, it seems like, after the construction of the tunnel, the other sections of the bypass will not be built.

Milutin Štrbić, head of the Department for Highways of Republic Directorate for Roads, pointed out that there were no more money in the budget for financing of the completion of the bypass.

Besides construction of the tunnel, it is planned that access junctions be built at the same time, as well as part of the open route 500 m long. Regulation of water current of the brook 2 km long is also in the pipeline. All the works are carried out by "Energoprojekt", but subcontractors will have to be hired for works on construction of supporting wall 90 m long.

The deadline for completion of the works is 18 months - May 2006.
