Two students from Belgrade won second place on a Microsoft competition - healing "wicked" diseases by computer

Igor Kabiljo and Uroš Rajković, freshmen of the Computing Faculty in Belgrade defeated a wicked disease in only 24 hours. They won the second place on the international Microsoft competition, and the theme of the competition was "Imagine a world where technology helps us live healthier". Their task was to think of a program that is founded on artificial inteligence and is suposed to heal diseases in the human body.
- We had a map of a human body and we were suposed to heal certain spots with our units. Unlike in strategy games, we had to plan our steps ahead, and after starting the program, all we could do is watch our units make progress. You need good strategy and a lot of luck for this game. It was hard and we played basketball during the breaks to keep our heads cool and to be able to concetrate again - explains Igor.
About 65.000 students from over 100 countries participated in this competition, but only 180 from them went to thi finals in New Delhi. Our students were beaten only by the French. Uroš, who lives in the dormitory "Patris", says that he started playing computer games in the Elementary school, and during Highschool the computer became his best friend.
- Sometimes a week goes by without turning my computer on. Beside the computer, I like playing soccer, tennis and skating. I would like to go to some western country in Europe for my postgraduate studies, and then to return to Serbia - says Uroš.
This years "Microsoft" competiotion "Imagine cup" should start by the end of fall, and theme is "Imagine a world were tchnology would give us better education". The competition will last six months, but there will be qualifications first, and the best will go to the international competition. The finals are in Corea, and Uroš and Igor say that they will compete again.
