Velika Plana to become center of military industry - Jugoimport to make armored vehicles in Gosin Servis

Jugoimport - SDPR will start producing military vehicles and arms in late 2012 and early 2013 in Velika Plana, Blic reports.

- It was agreed in March that Belgrade-based Jugoimport – SDPR would be assembling military vehicles and arms at the Gosin Servis complex, part of Smederevska Palanka-based Gosa Holding. From that moment on we have been preparing the required documentation. A land standing unused for years has been allotted to Jugoimport to organize production on it, and we've been working closely with that company ever since - Sasa Solkic, mayor of Velika Plana, reveals in a talk with the Belgrade newspaper.

Adaptation of existing facilities will be completed in the first phase of construction, which is in the pipeline for end-2012, whereas the second phase involving technical and technological modernization, expansion and construction of new facilities is expected to start early next year, Solkic explained.

The public company Jugoimport – SDPR is a leader in the Serbian military industry. It is engaged in the trade in arms and military eqipment and technology transfer. Over the last five years, the company's exports have exceeded the value of USD 1.2 billion, with last year's exports reaching USD 200 million. Jugoimport operates in the markets of the Near and Middle East, northern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, southeast Asia, South America, USA... Among the most significant achievements of this company are a USD 100 million contract signed with Iraq in 2009 and last year's USD 280.8 million contract with Algeria.
