New U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby will arrive in Belgrade on September 19th, Tanjug learned in the U.S. Department of State.
Kirby is a long-time career diplomat at the State Department. He performed important functions in the U.S. diplomatic missions to Moldavia, South Korea, Germany, Denmark, Tanzania and Guyana.
Kirby has been working as a diplomat for 27 years now. He is currently principal deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of State.
During his long career, he was the U.S. ambassador to Moldavia in the period 2006-2008, consul general at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul and the consul general of the USA in Warsaw between 2001 and 2004.
He also worked at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt from 1996 to 1998.
Kirby used to be at the head of the Intelligence Coordination Office at the Investigation Beaureu of the U.S. Department of State.
He studied at the University of Pennsylvania, married Sarah Paulsen Kirby and got two daughters - Catrin and Elizabeth, who are both students.
