(Torgny Svenungsson)

The Embassy of Sweden has announced that Mr. Torgny Svenungsson came into office on 3 September 2012 as the new Head of Swedish Development Cooperation in Serbia.

Mr. Svenungsson has a very long experience in the field of international development cooperation throughout the world (Colombia, Cuba, Central America) and in the central office in Stockholm (SIDA). In that capacity he was involved in most of the major development cooperation programs that the Government of Sweden implemented in those areas.

Regarding his new position at the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade, Mr Svenungsson said: "I look forward to working with our Serbian partners in the government and in the civil society and hope to pursue our strong commitment to assist in preparing Serbia for an EU accession".

The Swedish development cooperation with Serbia amounts to approximately EUR 12 million per year, which makes Sweden the third biggest bilateral donor in Serbia. Sweden started its development cooperation in Serbia in the year of 2000 and has, since then, invested approximately EUR 250 million in major development projects in Serbia.

Mr Svenungsson has replaced Mr. Björn Mossberg, one of the veterans of the international development community in Serbia and in the region.
