(Rasim Ljajic)

Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Rasim Ljajic stated that the Serbian government was preparing a set of anti-crisis measures, which should be presented in September.

As Rasim Ljajic announced, some of them will be unpopular and not so easy at all.

- It is for certain that we must do many things, maybe even some extremely unpopular things, in order to preserve the macroeconomic stability, reduce the deficit and public debt. That won't be easy at all - Ljajic told the national broadcaster RTS.

Ljajic specified that the Ministry of Finance was preparing anti-crisis measures, stressing that the VAT on basic foodstuffs would not be increased.

- The VAT will be increased only if there is no other solution. In that case, the VAT will amount to 20 percent - said the minister.

He pointed out that the new government was facing numerous challenges and inherited problems.
