Restauration of Belgrade's fortress started, 170m CSD provided so far, still priority of city of Belgrade

- Belgrade’s fortress must be revived, because it should become the center of the Belgrade tourism in the future - said the Mayor of Belgrade Nenad Bogdanović on the occasion of his yesterday's survey (July 13, 2006) of the restauration works on the east and southeast rampart of the fortress.
He pointed out that 170m CSD would be set aside from the city budget for the works in 2006, but he also added that the additional money would be provided if needed, "because the restauration of the Belgrade fortress is one of the important priorities of the city administration". According to his words, one of the most important projects on that area was linking of the lower, river part, with the Upper City, as well as rehabilitation of the big stairway.
In the Belgrade fortress, the restauration works on Leopold’s gate are underway, as well as the works on Bastion of East Front, on the external part of Southeast rampart, and rehabilitation of bridges in front of the King gate and the Karađorđe gate.
The researches of the underground layers in the Upper and Lower cities of the fortress, which will show archeological contents hidden under the land surface, are in progress.
