Austrian company "PORR" signed investment contract with authorities of city of Niš worth several hundreds of millions of euros – construction of new factory, regional dump and Niš-Sofia highway

With the signing of the protocol on intentions and the first concrete contracts on June 27, 2006, the cooperation between the city of Niš and Viennese company "PORR AG" commenced.

After they signed the protocol, the representative of "PORR", Volfgang Stanek, and the mayor of Niš, Smiljko Kostić, pointed out that that was only the beginning of great and fruitful partnership.

- Already in the following days the construction of the facility of the branch of Austrian company will start in Niš. At the same time, the joint building ventures of the city and "PORR" will be registered. In addition, the construction of factory for exploitation and production of building stone and the factory for separation of river stone aggregate will commence immediatelly, as well as construction of asphalt base and concrete factory – Kostić explained.

According to his words, all that will be the introduction to the beginning of construction of big eco-center in Niš and new regional dump and founding of the company for collecting and transportation of communal waste. Kostić pointed out that the Austrians had decided to invest hundreds of millions of euros in the infrastructure of the Niš region.

Volfgang Stanek pointed out that the offer of company "PORR" implied near elaboration of the project and relocation of the railways from the central city zone, as well as construction of Niš's railway station, road and railway junction towards Serbian-Bulgarian border. Also, construction of Niš-Sofia highway, as well as complete infrastructure along that road, i.e. hotels, motels, gas stations and other necessary contents, is in the pipeline.
