During next year, border crossing Batrovci near Šid, between Republic of Serbia and Republic of Croatia will be completely reconstructed and brought into accord with border crossing standards in European Union.

Project for reconstruction of border crossing Batrovci whose budget for the first phase amounts to €4.4m is financed by European Union through European Agency for Reconstruction, whereas domestic partner in this business is Building Directorate of Serbia. The job of the contractor was assigned to company "Integral inženjering" from Laktaši (BiH), while supervisory agency is SAFEGE/IRD.

Present border crossing, built in 1993/94 on Belgrade-Zagreb highway, is settled on very busy Corridor 10 and it does not meet all the demands of transportation of passengers and goods with existing capacities, especially during the tourist season. After reconstruction of border crossing there will be 16 lanes in both directions, special facilities for control of truck and bus traffic and border inspection will be significantly improved.

Today, on March 30, 2005, realization of this project commenced – by signing of the contract on construction. The contract has been signed by A.Martins, head of EAR to Serbia, D.Vasović, deputy director of Building Directorate of Serbia and Bosiljka Božović, in the name of company Integral inženjering Laktaši.

The first phase was also financed by Republic of Serbia, whereas works on mine defusing in this area were financed by Ministry of Capital Investments that provided €250,000 for that purpose. Another €800,000 will be set aside for expenses of infrastructure and expropriation.

The deadline for realization is 13 months. Integral Inženjering expects to finish the job before the deadline in spite of the fact that border crossing will not be closed during the realization of the works.

The Project and tender documentation have been elaborated by CIP Belgrade. Another €4m is needed for the realization of the second phase of the project.
