At some exchange offices, the selling rate for the euro has reached as high as 118.9 dinars. The official selling rate of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is currently 118.3 dinars. It has risen slightly over the last 10 days, up from 118.2 dinars. Reports have emerged suggesting an increased demand for euros at exchange offices.

The National Bank of Serbia has announced that, according to data from the latest reports submitted by authorized exchange operators, these operators fully met the increased demand for euros from citizens throughout October. Exchange offices sold 571.6 million euros to citizens, while purchasing 515.3 million euros from them.

– This means that authorized exchange operators sold more euros to citizens than they purchased from them, resulting in a net sale of 56.3 million euros. Banks that have entered into agreements to conduct exchange operations have continuously and promptly supplied authorized exchange operators with euros to meet the increased demand from citizens. During October, these banks sold approximately 40.27 million euros to the authorized exchange operators – the NBS says.

On Monday alone, exchange offices sold approximately 26.2 million euros to citizens, while simultaneously purchasing about 23.4 million euros. The average buying rate for the euro applied by authorized exchange offices on that day was 116.83 dinars per euro, while the average selling rate for the euro was 118.51 dinars per euro. On that same day, authorized exchange offices purchased 4.75 million euros from banks.

– This confirms that the foreign exchange market is functioning in an orderly manner and that citizens can carry out exchange transactions according to their needs. The National Bank of Serbia will continue to closely monitor all developments and, in line with its mandate, take appropriate measures to preserve stability and confidence in the domestic currency – the NBS says.
