Kovacica Wind Farm expanded with EUR 140 million investment

The Kovacica Wind Farm has gained new production capacity through the Pupin project. This EUR 140 million investment will enable the generation of up to 220 GWh of electricity annually, which is enough to supply more than 40,000 households.

At the same time, the production of clean energy contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, strengthening energy security, and decreasing reliance on imported energy sources. In this way, the Pupin Wind Farm makes a significant contribution to decarbonization and the development of a more sustainable and energy-independent system in Serbia, the statement notes.

The Kovacica wind farm began operations in 2019 with 38 wind turbines and a total capacity of 104.5 MW. Seven years later, with the construction of the Pupin wind farm, featuring 16 new turbines with a total capacity of 95.5 MW, the capacity of the entire complex will nearly double.

This expansion represents a continuation of the partnership between the multinational company Enlight Renewable Energy and the local firm New Energy Solutions, supported by both international and domestic financial institutions.

The project received financial backing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Erste Group and Erste Bank. Construction was entrusted to the company Nordex and a consortium of local firms led by WD Concord West and Elektrozapad.

Milos Colic, CEO of New Energy Solutions, stated that the vision initiated with the construction of the Kovacica Wind Farm was taking on a new dimension, creating long-term value for Serbia's energy system, environmental protection and the future of generations to come.

The Pupin Wind Farm is named after Mihajlo Pupin, one of the most prominent Serbian scientists, who was born in Idvor, located in the municipality of Kovacica, where the wind farm has been built.
