Humanoid robots from Sabac could work in mines, foundries, and warehouses

Aleksandar Mastilovic, a digital transformation consultant for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS), assessed that, following the start of humanoid robot production at the Chinese “Minth” factory in Sabac, these robots could eventually take over jobs posing health and safety risks to workers, particularly in sectors facing severe labor shortages, such as mining.

– Mining is a special case. While the number of jobs is lower, the health risk is high, making this sector a priority candidate for robotization despite the smaller workforce – Mastilovic told the Politika daily.

According to him, alongside mining, the CCIS identifies monotonous assembly and sorting operations on production lines as prime candidates for robotization.

– There is also intralogistics, transfer, palletizing, and cargo storage in warehouses and distribution centers, as well as work in extreme temperatures, such as in foundries, forge shops, and metal processing plants, not to mention inspection and transport tasks in mining operations where human presence is risky – Mastilovic said.

He added that the rollout of robotization would not be dictated by the CCIS but by market logic and that companies would introduce robots first where labor shortages were most acute and the return on investment was fastest.
