Film “Izlet” selected as Serbia’s Oscar nominee

The film “Izlet”, directed by Nenad Pavlovic, has been selected as Serbia’s entry for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. The decision was made unanimously by the selection committee.

In addition to “Izlet”, the contenders included “Karmadona” by Aleksandar Radivojevic, “Vetre pricaj sa mnom” by Stefan Djordjevic, “Hajduk u Beogradu” by Milan Todorovic, and “Kengur se vraca kuci” by Miroslav Momcilovic, reports Headliners.rs.

The film is based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Mica Popovic. Through its cinematic language, it draws upon several significant artistic movements in local culture - Zenitism in literature, the Mediala art group, and the “Black Wave” of Yugoslav cinema - as well as the creative legacies of Mica Popovic and Zivojin Pavlovic.

At the heart of the story is Toma, a young artist who embarks on a river journey in an attempt to escape a totalitarian society and a personal tragedy that has befallen his family. The journey transforms into an odyssey of sorts, during which he faces a series of trials.

The project bears the distinctive creative imprint of the sons of the two artists with whom the film connects: the screenplay is by Jovan Popovic (son of Mica Popovic), while the direction is by Nenad Pavlovic (son of Zivojin Pavlovic). “Izlet” is Pavlovic’s second feature film, following the 2022 thriller “Trag divljaci”.

The film stars Stefan Vukic, Jovo Maksic, Nenad Herakovic, Radoslav Rale Milenkovic, Denis Muric, Radoje Cupic, Milena Pavlovic, Milena Radulovic, Milica Trifunovic, Marija Opsenica, Elizabeta Djorevska, Antonio Scarpa, Dragan Bjelogrlic, and Predrag Miki Manojlovic. Sasa Ali also takes on a role, marking his return after a twenty-year hiatus.

Nominations for the 99th Academy Awards will be announced on January 21, 2027, while the ceremony is scheduled for March 14.
