Subotica Mayor Sasa Vucinic and Gilbert Reitener, manager at the Austrian company Quinterra, announced Wednesday (25 April 2012) the construction of a retail park with a Lidl supermarket, subotica.info reports.
The German supermarket chain Lidl plans to open a 2,000-square-meter supermarket in Subotica, Tanjug reports. This chain has purchased a land lot on the road to Palic and, as it was announced, a retail park of Austria's Quinterra will be built on the same site and at the same time as Lidl's facility.
As Gilbert Reitener from Quinterra explained, these are two separate investments, but both projects will share the same deadlines.
- About 300 new jobs will be created within the complex, while the citizens of Subotica will get a modern shopping center to shop for food, home supplies, clothing and footwear at lower prices, so they won't have to go to Hungary anymore to do that - said Reitener.
The retail park will feature various footwear and fashion stores, such as New Yorker, C&A, Takko and others, as well as catering facilities.
According to the words of Reitener, the total value of this project is EUR 10 million, and the construction of both facilities is due to start in the second half of this year.
Mayor Sasa Vucinic said he was satisfied with the decision of the two companies to invest in Subotica. He stressed that the local self-government had done everything to provide the investors with all the necessary permits on time.
- Lidl has 10,000 facilities in Europe. After opening a market on the Palic road, the company's plan is to open few more facilities in various locations around the city - said Vucinic.
