The second meeting of the Integrated Circuit (Chip) Development and Design Working Group, established by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, was held at the eGovernment House. The aim of the Working Group is to implement activities in accordance with the strategic priorities of the Republic of Serbia in the field of industrial policy, digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence until 2030.

The Working Group, which includes leading experts from the economy, science and public administration, from the country and the diaspora, is tasked with analyzing the current state of microelectronics, chip design and related industries in the Republic of Serbia, as well as preparing an expert opinion, proposing a strategic framework and program for the development of the domestic chip design ecosystem.

– Integrated circuit design is one of the foundations of the modern digital economy and plays a key role in the development of telecommunications, artificial intelligence, the automotive industry, IoT devices, computer systems, as well as defense and security systems. It would be invaluable for Serbia to develop its own initial capacities for chip design. The Working Group has focused its activities in three directions – scientific and educational, economic and institutional framework. I expect the preliminary results of our work to be presented at the end of September – emphasized Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment who chairs the expert Working Group.

As announced by the Office for IT and eGovernment, the work of the Working Group represents an important step towards positioning Serbia as a regional center for research and development (R&D) in the field of chip design, through connecting institutions, the academic community, scientific research organizations and the economy. The results of this Working Group will represent the basis for creating long-term policies and measures that will contribute to the development of the domestic microelectronics industry and strengthening the technological sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.
