Revitalization of Vlasina Hydropower Plants Worth Almost EUR 110 Million to Begin This Autumn

Preparatory activities for the revitalization of the Vlasina hydropower plants are proceeding according to plan, creating the conditions for physical works on site to begin this autumn, initially on the intake structure, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced.

EPS General Director Dusan Zivkovic said that the Vlasina hydropower plants have been an important source of peak electricity for Serbia's power system for more than seven decades and that the reconstruction will enable their more reliable operation in the coming decades.


* The renewal of equipment and application of modern technological solutions will ensure more stable system operation and greater availability of generating units for at least the next 30 years. I expect maximum commitment from all partners so that the project is implemented according to the planned schedule and without additional costs - Zivkovic said during a meeting with contractors and main subcontractors in Surdulica.

The project includes the reconstruction and modernization of all generating units, auxiliary systems and hydromechanical equipment within the Vlasina hydropower plants.

Zivkovic emphasized that EPS is continuing its investment cycle in the modernization of hydropower capacities, noting that, thanks to the already completed revitalizations of the Bajina Basta pumped-storage hydropower plant, as well as the Djerdap 1 and Zvornik hydropower plants, the hydropower sector's generation capacity has been increased by a total of 172 MW.

Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia also attended the meeting and tour of the Vlasina hydropower plants.

The total value of the revitalization project is EUR 109.7 million. Financing has been secured through a EUR 67 million EBRD loan, a European Union grant of EUR 15.43 million through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), while the remaining EUR 27.26 million will be financed by EPS.

HE „Vrla 2“ locirana u koritu reke Vrle, a na ulivu reke Bitvrđe, koja se kao i vode Gradskog potoka i reke Vrle uvodi u organe ove elektrane. Sistem „Vrle 2“ počinje akumulacionim basenom zapremine 100 hiljada kubika vode reke Vrle, koji je izgrađena odmah ispod izlaznih voda „Vrle 1“ i služi za kompenzaciju njenih voda i dnevno izravnavanje Gradskog potoka i Bitvrđe. Akumulacija HE „Vrla 2“ formirana je izgradnjom brane u koritu reke. Voda iz kompenzacionog basena vodi se do mašinske zgrade tunelom dužine 3.568 m, protoka 18 kubika u sekundi. U mašinskoj zgradi smeštene su dve vertikalne frensisove turbine. Pored voda iz Vlasinskog i Lisinskog jezera, „dvojka" dobija godišnje iz toka Vrle, Gradske i Bitvrđe reke oko 15,3 miliona kubika i sa energetskim potencijalom po kubiku od 0,334 kWh daje u proseku godišnje 51 milion kWh.
