Zrenjanin City Hall approves construction of water plant worth EUR 25.5 million

The City Hall of Zrenjanin today approved the conclusion of an agreement for the design, construction, funding and management of a drinking water treatment plant in Zrenjanin with the German-Austrian company WTE Wassertechnik Gmbh.

That company has submitted the best bid for the construction of that facility, offering to build it for EUR 25.5 million and strictly act in line with all given terms.

Representatives of this company should sign the agreement with the public utility company Vodovod i Kanalizacija in Zrenjanin next week, whereas the construction of the plant is expected to start in six months.

Construction of the water plant will be financed from a 15-year loan whose repayment will start in 2015, said Vodovod i Kanalizacija Director Milorad Bjelogrlic.

The agreement does not rule out the possibility of premature repayment without additional costs as well as reduction of the total price if non-refundable grants are provided in the meantime from the EU IPA funds.

According to tender terms and conditions, the whole job cannot cost more than EUR 28 million, water must meet European quality standards, the plant shall not consume over 55 kWh of electric energy and there can be up to 5% of wastewater, provided that the quality of that water is such that it can go into the sewer.

WTE Wassertechnik is one of the largest builders of such plants in the world, operating on almost all continents.

By signing that agreement in Zrenjanin, this international company will practically make its entrance to the market of Serbia official.
