Green light for construction of National Stadium rail station

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has issued a decision determining that the project for the first phase of construction of the National Stadium rail station complex in the Belgrade municipality of Surcin does not require the preparation of an environmental impact assessment study.

As stated in the Ministry’s announcement, the decision refers to the first phase of construction of the rail station complex, and the project holder is the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

The project includes the construction of a station, underpass, platforms with canopies and supporting infrastructure, and the estimated investment value is 293 million dinars, or about EUR 2.5 million.

The central part of the complex will consist of a station building with a floor structure of B+GF, with a gross developed construction area of 715 m2. The facility will house a waiting room, ticket office, information desk, toilets, a children’s changing room, as well as official premises for staff. Special attention has been paid to accessibility, so elevators, tactile paths for the visually impaired and toilets adapted for people with disabilities are planned.

The station will have two platforms connected by a 9.35-meter-wide underpass, which will allow passengers to access the platforms, but also to establish a pedestrian connection with future facilities around the National Stadium. The underpass will be equipped with stairs and elevators, and will be illuminated by a circular glass lantern.

One of the project’s features is the green roofs on the station building and the building for signaling, safety and telecommunications equipment. The roofs will be partly flat, and partly cascading towards plateaus, with planters and seating areas.

25 parking spaces are also planned within the complex, two of which will be intended for people with disabilities. The area around the station will be landscaped with more than 9,800 m2 of green areas with lawns, trees and shrub vegetation.

The total gross developed building area of all buildings in the complex is 1,178 m2.
