Djokic announces construction of new hydroelectric power plant in Bileca and large solar power plant

Minister of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska Petar Djokic announced on Saturday in Bileca that the construction of the new hydroelectric power plant “Bileca” was planned in the next period, and emphasized that the municipality of Gacko should also develop new energy facilities.

– In the municipality of Bileca, large and historic investments in energy have been made in the last ten years, and around BAM 140 million have been invested in several energy projects – Djokic told reporters, Srna reports.

He pointed out that the “Dabar” hydroelectric power plant was being built in the area of Bileca, Nevesinje and Berkovici, which had entered its last year of construction, and that the project was expected to be completed the next year, provided that there were no extraordinary circumstances.

Djokic announced that there were also several initiatives for the construction of new large solar power plants in Bileca, RTRS reports.

Djokic added that the Gacko municipality should also develop new energy facilities because the Gacko Thermal Power Plant was 42 years old and would eventually have to stop operating for more than 25 years, although the construction of a new thermal power plant in Gacko had not been abandoned.

He reminded that in the preceding 11 years, BAM 2.8 billion had been invested in the energy sector in Republika Srpska, something that had not been done by even much larger countries in the region.
