More than EUR 5.5 million for air traffic in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Minister Katic signs agreements with three airports

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications announced that on June 19, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mostar, based on the decision of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to adopt three programs to subsidize public companies in the field of air transport, within the jurisdiction of this ministry, agreements on the allocation of funds for their implementation had been signed.

The Ministry’s statement said that funds in the total amount of BAM 11,800,000 had been provided for the implementation of these programs in the Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2026. They added that the signing of the agreements had created the conditions for the start of the implementation of planned activities aimed at improving air transport, strengthening the capacities of public companies in this sector, and ensuring better and more efficient service provision.

Federal Minister of Transport and Communications Andrijana Katic signed agreements on Friday for subsidizing existing and opening new airlines with the acting director of JP Medjunarodni aerodrom Sarajevo d.o.o. Sarajevo, Dino Selimovic, in the amount of BAM 3,850,000, with the director of JP Medjunarodni aerodrom Tuzla d.o.o. Tuzla, Dzevad Halicevic, in the amount of BAM 3,100,000 and with the director of JP Medjunarodna zracna luka - aerodrom Mostar d.o.o. Mostar, Marko Djuzel in the amount of BAM 3,050,000.

The Ministry adds that the Agreement on the co-financing of the costs of hiring firefighting aircraft in the amount of BAM 1,800,000 was also signed for JP Medjunarodna zracna luka - aerodrom Mostar d.o.o. Mostar.

– The purpose of the allocation of funds is to support a pilot project that will enable a quick reaction in the event of a fire and test all the necessary operational capacities for the future development of the air protection and rescue system. The importance of subsidizing Air Tractor rental was additionally confirmed by the previously signed Cooperation Agreement on organizing firefighting from the air at Mostar Airport, while today’s signing of the contract ensured concrete financial support for the implementation of the activities provided for in this program – it is stated in the Ministry’s press release.

They explain that this completes the project of establishing a joint air support system in the fight against fires, which the entire Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will rely on in the future, and that four cantons, Herzegovina-Neretva, West Herzegovina, Central Bosnia and Canton 10, have participated in the support so far.

– The signed agreement confirms the recognition of the importance of the timely engagement of the Air Force in the protection of people, property and natural resources, while today’s signing of the agreement represents an important step in ensuring the conditions for its effective functioning in practice. By implementing these programs, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Government of the Federation of BiH continue to invest in the development of air infrastructure and operational capacities of public interest, confirming the strategic importance of safe, functional and sustainable air transport for overall social and economic development – the ministry announced.
