Bela Crkva Carnival begins – Seven days of music, fun and socializing

Bela Crkva is once again becoming the center of joy and carnival atmosphere, where a tradition that has lasted almost two centuries merges with a rich program, music, parades and a grand spectacle that gathers visitors from all over the country and the region.

The oldest carnival in Serbia, the Bela Crkva Carnival, which dates back to 1828, begins this summer on June 22 and will last until June 29.

This year’s seven-day program includes several concerts, exhibitions and literary evenings during the carnival week, with the highlight being Saturday, June 28.

The carnival flags will be ceremonially raised on Thursday, June 26 in Glavna Street, followed by a performance by the “Bela Crkva Majorettes”, the City Choir “Bella Music” and the Dance Association “Buena Vista” from 7 pm.

The children’s carnival is scheduled for Friday, when the youngest ones will be entertained by “Haos animatori” from Novi Sad and the mascots “Paw Patrol” and “Unicorn”.

The same evening there will be a big salsa party in the open air in the city center, as well as a concert by the “Azra Tribute Band”.

A unique international carnival procession will be held on Saturday at 7 pm, and all guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the charms of a dozen allegorical floats and playful carnival groups.

A big fireworks display is expected after the procession, with a concert by Dragana Mirkovic at 10 pm.

The residents of Bela Crkva are proud of this festival because it is authentic and many other carnivals in Serbia have originated from it.

According to local chronicler Zivan Istvanic, its history dates back to 1828, and it was modeled after the famous carnival in Cologne.
