France introduces emergency measures due to heat – Alcohol consumption banned in public places

During the annual “Fete de la Musique” event in French cities today, alcohol consumption will be banned in departments that will be under a red weather alert from noon due to a heat wave.

Prefects will issue decrees prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in public places in departments covered by the red alert, according to a statement from the office of French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu.

The statement adds that instructions have been issued for all events organized by the state and its agencies not to serve alcohol.

“Very high temperatures will persist for a long period across the country,” Meteo France said in its latest report, which declared a red heat wave alert for 35 departments, including Paris, for today.
