Wait for decision on concession obstructing operations of Airports of Montenegro

Although he believes that we can restructure the airports with our own forces, Tolic says that a concession would speed it up, since state-owned companies are slowed down by procedures and deadlines.
– It is high time that this decision was made because it is a rather big obstruction in our operations, because we are receiving inquiries from our aviation partners about what we can guarantee in the next two years with the current composition and whether anything will change in the contracts if a concessionaire enters – said Tolic.
He noted that the previous year had been the best in the history of Montenegrin aviation with over three million passengers. In May, the number of passengers increased by 18% compared to the record last year.
– This also shows how much pressure there is on our infrastructure, which we have not raised to a higher level for almost two decades, and this is a priority if we want traffic growth – said Tolic.
He points out that interest in Montenegro has been raised throughout Europe, that aviation partners are interested.
– And Wizz Air, their cabin occupancy is very good, they would be ready to bring a third plane if possible. We are forced to, taking into account the national carrier that is based at both airports, take care of how to distribute the planes so that everything takes place safely – he said.
He points out that they are aware that comfort is not adequate and that there are crowds in both Podgorica and Tivat, but that they could not give up the opportunity to support tourism. That’s why they have set up a large number of parasols in front of the Podgorica airport to protect passengers who arrive early for their flight and cannot be accommodated in the building.
– We are in communication with the Ministry of Spatial Planning, the municipalities of Zeta and Tivat and are trying to find modalities so that in 2027 we can have a breakthrough in infrastructure, to expand to the north and to get more gates – he said, adding that good news about greater connectivity awaited us.
He said that, in addition to low-cost companies, it was also nice to see the national carrier growing.
