German-Austrian WTE Wassertechink to build EUR 25.5 million water plant in Zrenjanin

The City Council of Zrenjanin gave its consent Thursday for the conclusion of an agreement on the design, construction, funding and management of a drinking water treatment plant in Zrenjanin with the German-Austrian company WTE Wassertechnik Gmbh, whose bid for the construction of that facility has been declared the best.

WTE Wassertechnik is one of the largest builders of such plants in the world, operating on almost all continents. Representatives of this company should sign the agreement with the public utility company Vodovod i Kanalizacija in Zrenjanin in mid-April, whereas the construction of the plant is expected to start in six months, reads a statement issued by the City Council of Zrenjanin.

Construction of the water plant will be financed from a 15-year loan whose repayment will start in 2015. The agreement does not rule out the possibility of premature repayment without additional costs as well as reduction of of the total price if non-refundable grants are provided in the meantime from the EU IPA funds, which are now much more available to Serbia because of its candidate status.

According to tender terms and conditions, the whole job cannot cost more than EUR 28 million, water must meet European quality standards, the plant shall not consume over 55 kWh of electric energy and there can be up to 5% of wastewater, provided that the quality of that water is such that it can go into the sewer. The appointed contractor, WTE Wassertechnik, has offered to do the whole job for EUR 25.5 million and strictly act in line with all given terms.
