Science Fund opens EUR 11.7 million call for AI projects in the economy

The Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia has opened a public call for applications for projects under the program “Science for the Economy - Application of Artificial Intelligence in Industry through Scientific Partnerships - From the Laboratory to the Market”.

As announced, the goal of the new program is to further connect science and the economy through the development of sustainable and applicable scientific solutions, with a focus on creating new products, services and innovative technologies that can find application in industry and everyday life.

The program supports applied research in all scientific fields, while projects that relate exclusively to basic research at the idea level will not be funded.

All projects must include one of the priority domains - artificial intelligence, food for the future, information and communication technologies, machines and production processes of the future or creative industries, with artificial intelligence having a significant role in each project proposal. The horizontal thematic areas listed are digitalization, energy transition, sustainable energy systems and health.

One of the conditions of the competition is that the project consortium consists of at least one accredited scientific research organization from Serbia and at least one business entity registered in Serbia, which will provide co-financing of the project in the amount of at least 15% of the budget financed by the Science Fund.

The total budget of the program is EUR 11.7 million, while the duration of individual projects can be up to 12 months.

Applications are submitted exclusively electronically through the Portal for the Application of Scientific Projects of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, and the deadline for submitting project proposals is June 15, 2026, by noon.
