Smederevo Oil Product Storage Facility to get additional capacities – Permit issued for construction of two 20,000 m3 reservoirs

Storage capacities for oil product storage will be further strengthened in Serbia. The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has issued a decision to the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves approving the construction of two 20,000 m3 reservoirs (R21 and R22) with tanks and pipeline installations, two metering stations at Pier 2 with accompanying installations and equipment, and connection to the existing infrastructure of the Smederevo Oil Product Storage Facility.

The estimated cost of the works is 1,252,910,717.55 dinars excluding VAT.

The green light for the construction of these two reservoirs is in line with the state’s announcement from the summer of 2023 about the construction of eight 20,000 m3 reservoirs. Let us remind that, back then, the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves announced a tender for the preparation of project documentation for the construction of eight reservoirs of this capacity with accompanying infrastructure at the existing oil products storage facility in Smederevo.

The construction of these reservoirs, as previously indicated, is necessary for the formation of strategic reserves, as one of Serbia’s obligations as a member of the Energy Community.

The Smederevo Oil Product Storage Facility is located on the right bank of the Danube, downstream from Smederevo. It is intended for river reception, storage and distribution of oil and oil products by river and road transport. It was designed in the 1980s. After 2000, reconstruction began (almost all vital facilities and the entire reservoir area were destroyed in the bombing), and the storage facility is in a functional condition, but far below the storage capacity it previously had.

As a reminder, location requirements for the construction of two new 2,500 m3 reservoirs were issued recently at the Oil Product Storage Facility in Pozega.
