Serbia’s public debt at end-March EUR 39.35 billion, or 41.7% of GDP

Serbia’s public debt at the end of March this year amounted to EUR 39.35 billion, or 41.7% of the gross domestic product (GDP), the Ministry of Finance announced. The public debt at the end of February this year amounted to EUR 39.1 billion, which was 41.5% of the GDP.

At the end of 2025, Serbia’s public debt amounted to EUR 39.3 billion, which was 44.4% of the GDP.

Serbia’s budget deficit in first quarter about 98 billion dinars

In the first quarter of 2026, the state budget deficit amounted to 97.9 billion dinars, which is better than the budget plan by 80.3 billion, given that the planned deficit was 178.2 billion dinars, the Ministry of Finance of Serbia announced.

In March, a deficit of 27.4 billion dinars was recorded. In that month, revenues of 195 billion dinars were collected, of which tax revenues amounted to 170.8 billion dinars.

The largest part of tax revenues refers to the payment of value added tax (VAT) in the amount of 92 billion dinars and excise duties in the amount of 32.7 billion dinars. Profit tax was collected in the amount of 24.4 billion dinars. Non-tax revenues were generated in the amount of 22.5 billion dinars, and the inflow of donations in March amounted to 1.8 billion dinars.

Expenditures were incurred in the amount of 222.5 billion dinars, of which expenditures for employees amounted to 55.8 billion dinars, capital expenditures were 51.6 billion dinars, subsidies were 32.1 billion dinars, expenditures for goods and services were 22.4 billion dinars, and transfers to the mandatory social insurance organizations (the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Employment Service, the Social Insurance Fund for Military Personnel) were 20.9 billion dinars.

At the level of the state sector, a fiscal deficit of 112.9 billion dinars and a primary fiscal deficit of 66.1 billion dinars were achieved in the first three months.
