Beška still without bulding company – official announcement of company that will rehabilitate old and build new bridge across the Danube should not be expected before August 3, 2006

Since the contractor for the works on construction of new bridge across the Danube near Beška and the rehabilitation of the existing one was not selected by June 5, 2006, the deadline for offers from the interested contractors has been extended for the third time.

Public Company "Putevi Srbije" as the investor determined the new deadline - July 6, 2006, prior to which the contractor should be selected. If another 28 days is added, that the deadline for selection of the contractor is August 3 and the agony of the foreign companies and Serbian building companies, which wait to be selected, will last until then..

As the manager of "Mostogradnja", Branko Knežević, stated in the name of Serbian Consortium, according to the explanation of the aforementioned extension, such move was taken "due to extraordinary circumstances". However, Knežević says that that does not mean anything, because everyone knows that the creditor European Bank for Rehabilitation and Development (EBRD) is in descrepancy with the decision of the Tender commission whose suggestion about hiring Serbian building companies EBRD does not want to accept.

How and when will this match end, it is hard to tell. Serbian building companies are ready to do anything, from strikes and road blockades to the charges against EBRD due to disrespect of the decision of the Tender commission.
