(Bozidar Djelic)

Bozidar Djelic, former Serbian deputy prime minister and member of the Democratic Party Presidency, is one of the five candidates for the post of President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

- This is a great honor for me, and I believe for Serbia as well, since this is the first time that a Serb competes for one of the most important positions in the global financial sector - Djelic told Tanjug news agency on Friday.

- However, we should not have high hopes because my competitors come from four big EU countries - Germany, France, Great Britain and Poland - he added.

Representatives of 66 EBRD stakeholders should elect the new president in mid-May. Current EBRD President Thomas Mirrow assumed that position in June 2008.

This is the first time that more than one candidate is running for the post.

Djelic said that the candidacy would not affect his engagement in the election campaign and all activities related to the European future of Serbia.
