– The tender has been announced for 85 short trams, worth EUR 188 million. Belgrade needs new trams, but the question arises why normal-length trams are not being purchased and why the opportunity for Belgrade to purchase vehicles from renowned European manufacturers, which could be assembled and overhauled in Serbia, is being missed – said Jovanovic.
He added that all objections from the four European factories that had complained about the tender conditions had been rejected.
– Turkish Bozankaya trams did not perform well in Belgrade, but also in Romania, which is the only European location besides Belgrade where they are still in use. In the Romanian city of Iasi, short Bozancaya trams were paid 1.6 million euros each, so it will be interesting to follow what the final price for Belgrade will be – said Jovanovic.
