Ambassador of Russia to Belgrade, Aleksandar Aleksejev, pointed out that the economy was the sector in which Russia could give the greatest constribution in the Balkans, especially when having in mind that the countries in the region had the biggest problems in the economy sector.

However, he said that, nowadays, it was necessary to work on the development of new forms of the economic cooperation, because the old ones no longer responded to the modern life.

- Now we will enter the investment cooperation. Five years ago, that was not possible. Simply, we did not have power to do so - Aleksejev explained, adding that the aim of Russia is to become one of the biggest investors in Serbia.

Pointing out that Russian company "Lukoil" is already second biggest investor in Serbia, Russian ambassador said that that company could play the important role in the creation of energy security in Serbia. Aleksejev mentioned some important projects of "Gazprom" company, such as introduction of gas in the south of Serbia, construction of gas storage in Banatski Dvor and power plant in Novi Sad.
