Implementation of a twinning project aimed at improving the performance of the Customs Administration of Serbia, financed by the European Union with EUR 1.4 million, was finished today. Thanks to this project, delays at Serbian border crossings are expected to be shortened, it was announced on the Serbian government's website.

Thanks to the project, which was implemented in cooperation with the French Customs Administration, procedures are simplified, the administrative capacity is increased in line with EU standards and the collection of customs taxes is improved. From now on, there will be fewer customs frauds, and Serbian businesspeople will be more efficient and competitive in foreign markets because of simplified procedures.

Head of the EU delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert said that the Serbian customs had made a great progress, adding that Serbia had taken a huge step forward in that field on its path to the EU.

Degert observed that Serbia still needed to work on the enhancement of cooperation with European countries in that domain, as well as to further step up the fight against counterfeit goods.

As he pointed out, Serbia has established more efficient control and higher flow of goods and people, better collection of customs and excise taxes, and it has also increased the competence of customs officers.
