The announced arrival of Sweden's Ikea and opening of five trade centers across Serbia may lead to the creation of 6,500 new jobs. Ikea plans to employ about 2,000 people at its five department stores in Serbia.
At the same time, at least 2,500 people will be hired to build these facilities, while the domestic industry, which will cooperate with Ikea, will employ another 2,000 workers, Press daily writes.
Milena Vujicic, Ikea's spokesperson in Serbia, confirms that 2,000 new jobs will be created at the future department stores.
- In addition, a large number of jobs will be created indirectly, since our partners will need to hire workers to build these department stores and to maintain them - says Ms. Vujicic.
Assistant Minister of Spatial Planning Aleksandra Damjanovic Petrovic says that a minimum of 500 workers may be hired to build each of the department stores.
People at Ikea stress that they plan to continue their cooperation with Vranje-based Simpo and Paracin-based Jasen-Lukic as well as to start working with other suppliers in Serbia.
