A new clock, nine meters high and weighing about seven and a half tons, was set up on the roundabout at the Republic Square this weekend. According to the authorities, the installation was completed in the early morning hours on Sunday, and the clock was immediately put into operation and shows the correct time.

The city’s chief urban planner, Marko Stojcic, told RTS that it was a high-quality French mechanism that ran on electricity and was independently adjusted via GPS for daylight and standard time.

When it comes to the structure, Stojcic stated that the base was made of steel, while the outer covering was made of cast brass.

– The structure is made of steel, and there is a cast brass casing around it, which guarantees an extremely long, perhaps unlimited lifespan – said Stojcic.

According to him, the installation of the clock was very complex, considering the weight and structure of the clock itself.

– It was a very complex installation, considering that the clock itself is very heavy. This is a hand-made object that arrived at the Republic Square from a workshop, in parts. As you can see, it was successfully assembled, connected and shows the correct time – said Stojcic.

The clock, according to him, will continue to show the time accurately in the future, without the need for manual adjustment.

– It will always show the correct time, so that in the coming decades we will all be able to enjoy the new symbol of Belgrade, the Belgrade clock – added the chief city planner.
