Chairman of the Mercator Managing Board Ziga Debeljak says he would have nothing against the takeover of that Slovenian company by Serbian businessmen.

- I would not have anything against that, let them just collect the money. That would even be very useful, but such acquisition exclusively depends on stockholders - said Debeljak.

After the failure of an attempt by Croatia's Agrokor to take over the largest Slovenian market chain and in the light of the successful takeover of Fructal by Backa Palanka-based Nectar, there have been speculations that Serbian businessmen could also buy Mercator.

Debeljak reminded that Serbia was Mercator's second largest market, which had brought over EUR 500 million worth of revenue to that company in 2011.

- This year we again plan to invest about EUR 25 million in our operations in Serbia. We are among the biggest employers in the country - said Debeljak.
