Director of NES: Serbia does not have a problem with unemployment, but with a lack of skilled personnel

Serbia does not have a problem with unemployment, but with a lack of skilled and qualified personnel, which is one of the key challenges of the modern labor market, said the director of the National Employment Service (NES), Milan Bosnic.

According to the service, after meetings with dozens of large and medium-sized employers in Jagodina and Uzice, he said that a stable and sustainable labor market required a joint and coordinated approach by the state, the economy, and local governments.

– The state’s priority is to provide secure jobs, continuous training of workers, and the development of their competencies through systemic support, so that the economy has a quality and motivated workforce – said Bosnic.

According to him, the biggest challenges in the labor market relate to the mismatch between the education system and the needs of the economy, the shortage of labor, and the need to maintain job security, which is why dialogue with employers must be a constant and systematic practice of institutions.

Bosnic said that, based on the consultations with business people, the NES would define further measures and specific modalities of support, and that continued discussions with the business community were planned for February and March in all major cities in Serbia.
