As they emphasized, this transaction represents an important step in Kafeterija’s regional expansion strategy, Bloomberg Adria reports.
The BlackPeak Capital fund emphasizes that the company is actively considering similar formats in neighboring markets, so a new acquisition of Kafeterija in the region can be expected soon.
– We support the management team of Kafeterija in implementing both organic growth and targeted acquisitions across Southeast Europe – BlackPeak Capital emphasized.
Kafeterija sold 16.95% of the company to the Luxembourg investment fund BlackPeak Capital Investments SARL in March last year. The value of the transaction formalized by the contract is not known, but it is known that with the entry of the new partner, the company was recapitalized by five million euros, the Serbian Business Registers Agency (SBRA) announced at the time. Judging by the five million euro share received for the recapitalization, the total value of Kafeterija can be estimated at slightly less than EUR 30 million, Bloomberg reports.
– With the support of BlackPeak Capital, Kafeterija is now moving towards conquering new markets - Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, further strengthening its position as a regional leader – BlackPeak Capital emphasized at the time.
This domestic coffee shop chain was founded in December 2013. It was founded by Marko Vukomanovic and Zoran Stanojevic, who later founded LoveFest.
In July 2016, a decision was made to amend the company’s articles of association, whereby Kafeterija became 100% owned by Kining Holdings Limited, a limited liability company headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus, with a registered and paid-in capital of 1.8 million dinars. Kining Holdings Limited was the sole owner of Kafeterija until the entry of the BlackPeak Capital fund.
In the past 10 years, Kafeterija has become one of the fastest growing chains of cafes in Serbia. It has around 60 outlets in Serbia, in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac, Vrnjacka Banja and Kopaonik, as well as four locations in Montenegro (two in Tivat, one in Herceg Novi and one in Kumbor).
In 2024, the company achieved a net profit of 46.5 million dinars, while EBITDA amounted to 141.3 million dinars.
BlackPeak Capital is a private equity fund founded in 2014. They specialize in investing in companies in Southeast Europe. Their portfolio includes companies based in Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. They are not limited to specific sectors and invest from five to 15 million per investment in one or more stages.
Before entering the ownership structure of Kafeterija, they invested in Serbian startup VetCloud, which saves the lives of pets.
