Republic of Serbia has significant deposits of oil shales, the richest and the best tested of which is the one near Aleksinac with the estimated reserves amounting to about 2 billion tons, which could solve Serbia's problem with oil supply on a long-term basis with some appropriate technological investments - the engineer of geology in company "Jugopetrol-nafta", Mića Todosijević, pointed out.

According to his words, it is possible to obtain about 200 million tons of synthetic oil through industrial processing of that quantity of oil shales located near Aleksinac.

By the way, about 4.5 million tons of crude oil are spent every year in Serbia. Of that amount, only 660,000 tons come from the local sources. That means that Serbia would ensure few decades of self-sufficiency in the supply of that important raw material through production of appropriate quantity of synthetic oil.
