Two decades of presence on the Serbian market have made IB Interbilanz Consulting one of the recognizable names in the field of financial, tax and business consulting, especially among international companies operating in the region. From classic accounting services to complex audits, M&A and valuations, the company has over the years built a position as a partner that offers clients not only data, but also an understanding of the wider business context in which they make strategic decisions.

In an interview for our portal, Filip Boršik, general manager of IB Interbilanz Consulting, talks about key milestones in the company`s development, expectations of international clients operating in Serbia, sectors in which the most dynamic growth is recorded today, but also about the role of leadership and sustainability in modern consulting business, which is increasingly shaped under the influence of European regulatory and ESG requirements.

Two decades of successful work on the Serbian market certainly provide a long-term perspective. What moment or phase in the development of IB Interbilanz would you single out as a key turning point that cemented you as a partner trusted by leading companies?

- During the long-term presence on the business scene, there were several important stages of development, but as a key turning point, I would single out the period when, in addition to classic accounting and tax, we expanded our spectrum to audit services, as well as capital and property valuation services, M&A. At that moment, we were no longer just a service that "delivers data", but a partner that understands the business context, risks and long-term goals of the companies.

The trust shown to us by large domestic and international companies in periods of regulatory changes and market uncertainty was especially significant. That`s when continuity, expertise and the ability to react quickly and offer practical solutions proved to make a real difference. It was precisely this phase that positioned us as a reliable partner to whom clients turn not only when everything is stable, but also when important business decisions need to be made.

Such a way of doing business and communication has made us one of the significant players in the market of consulting services, as evidenced by our continuous growth every year.

You work with a large number of international clients, primarily from Austria and Germany. What are their greatest expectations from consulting and financial partners in Serbia? How have you shaped your expertise over the years to meet those expectations?

- Long-term partnership with large companies from the German-speaking area, which have shown us their trust, especially during the turbulent period (corona), encouraged us to grow year after year.

First of all, international clients recognized our reliability, stability and complete compliance with regulations from both the home countries and the EU regulations that apply in the RS, and as the primary thing - clarity in communication. It is extremely important for them to have a reliable partner in Serbia who understands the local legal framework, but at the same time operates according to the standards they are used to in their home markets - precisely, transparently and without "surprises".

Also, they expect more and more a proactive approach: to warn them in time about changes in regulations, tax and financial risks, but also about opportunities for business optimization. The speed of reaction and the ability to obtain concrete, actionable solutions are often as important as the expertise itself.

Over the years, we have shaped our expertise in exactly that direction - by continuously following domestic and international standards, investing in team education and developing internal practice that combines local knowledge with international experience. This is precisely why our portfolio consists of 99% of foreign clients, because trust is not only built through numbers, but also through the way of cooperation, clearly set expectations and long-term stability of relations.

IB Interbilanz is present in several countries and provides a wide range of services. Where do you see the greatest demand growth today and which industries are currently the most dynamic?

- With our partners, we are present in seven countries of Central and Southeastern Europe, with a turnover of 25 million USD and over 350 employees, which makes us a reliable and stable company that knows international laws and regulations and applies them in business, together with the Laws of the RS.

Among the services we provide, we would highlight:

1. Financial and accounting consulting, application of international accounting standards
With the intensification of investments, acquisitions and restructuring in the region, there is a growing need for quality financial analysis, valuations and support during the M&A process. Investors are looking for speed, precision and a partner who understands local markets in the context of international standards — which is the area where we`re experiencing the most dynamic growth.
2. Tax advisory and international tax planning
Changing regulation, BEPS standards and complex cross-border structures are creating an increasing demand for specialized tax expertise. Companies expect stability, timely monitoring of changes and a strategic approach to risk management.
3. Outsourcing financial and accounting functions
More and more companies are deciding to outsource key administrative processes to external professionals. Their focus is on efficiency, digitization and continuity — which positions us as a long-term partner in their operational functioning.
4. Controlling and Advanced Financial Management
As businesses grow, so does the need for sophisticated planning, profitability analysis, KPI structures and management reporting. This is particularly pronounced in large groups, but increasingly also in strong local medium-sized enterprises.

Among the most dynamic industries today, I would single out:

• Energy and renewable sources - Investments in green projects, complex regulations and financing models make this area one of the most promising;
• IT and technology companies - Growing fast, operating globally and looking for a reliable partner who understands the international context, IP structures and specific tax models;
• Trade and logistics - E-commerce, faster turnover of goods and growing needs for controlling and optimizing processes contribute to a strong demand for advisory and tax services.

Common to all these sectors is that clients are looking for reliable, fast and professional partners - which allows us to take advantage of our regional presence and multidisciplinary approach.

You are a member of several foreign chambers and RES association. How does this international involvement help you to provide clients with better access to knowledge, regulation and cross-border business opportunities?

- As a company with majority foreign capital, whose clients are also from that domain, the importance of membership in chambers is great, above all, such as AHK, SPK Adventage Austria and the like. We are also members of various associations of Managers of Serbia, CFO, OIE, which further gives us a deeper insight into the issues that our clients face in their daily business.

In addition to the importance of meeting new potential clients, exchanging ideas and getting to know their business better, chambers provide clients with the opportunity to network, act together towards the regulator, and encourage new initiatives to improve business conditions. I would especially like to point out our membership in the working committees of the German Chamber of Commerce (AHK), primarily in the Committee for Small and Medium Enterprises, for HR, Renewable Sources and the like..., as well as the organization of various work seminars and lectures related to current topics in the tax and financial field, which we conducted in cooperation with the Slovenian Business Club (SPK).

Membership in the Association of Renewable Energy Sources (OIE) is especially dear to me and I am very proud that we are members of such an exceptional and respectable association of companies, as well as the people who lead that association. We have excellent cooperation and work together to improve knowledge and information about what renewable sources mean and what their contribution is, because you will agree, we are witnessing numerous problems in the energy sector, and one of the solutions is the continuous improvement and strengthening of awareness, construction and expansion of the capacity of renewable energy sources.

Sustainability has become a mandatory part of doing business in the EU and is increasingly affecting domestic companies as well. How do you and your clients prepare for ESG standards and what recommendations do you most often give to managers?

- In recent years, sustainability has become one of the most important strategic requirements for companies operating in the EU, as well as for all companies in Serbia that cooperate with European partners. CSRD and ESRS standards practically introduce a new dimension of corporate reporting and governance.

Although we are witnessing the current establishment of regulatory requirements, primarily due to geopolitical events in the world, I believe that this is a temporary trend and that the requirements for the application of ESG standards, as well as their revision to all actors in the economy, will intensify in the near future.

Certainly, our recommendations are that clients do not give up, that they continue in that direction, and that they allocate resources, both human and material, as much as they can, because this will definitely bring them a competitive advantage in the future.

As a general manager, you lead a company that operates both in Serbia and in the region. What, from your point of view, are the key principles of successful leadership in the complex financial and consulting sector?

- A good CEO must be a leader, he must be a support for everyone in the company, an authority and a person of integrity, and above all someone whom other colleagues can look up to.

From the perspective of the CEO of a consulting company, a sector that is very intensive and demanding in terms of working hours, constant changes in regulations, and all with the aim of providing quality and timely services, challenges arise every day.

Quality management of those challenges is what makes a good leader stand out, and that is through compliance with "3 key principles":
1. Employee management and development
2. Provision of "exceptional customer service"
3. Ability to adapt to all changes and predictability.

When those three principles are combined - people`s expertise, future direction with client satisfaction - the company remains stable, relevant and a desirable partner on the regional market.

When we talk about your career and personal development, what would you single out as the biggest challenge that shaped you as a professional and manager? What moves and motivates you the most today, outside of the business environment?

- I would definitely single out the transition from the position of CFO in Cargo-Partner as the biggest challenge, from an organized system with over 100 people, to the position of CEO of a small consultancy company, with only 10 people facing a lot of challenges at that time, in a short period of time it was necessary to stabilize and restructure the company, motivate people and attract new clients, which was definitely challenging.

From the current perspective, after 8 years, I can say that we have succeeded and are on the right path of development, that the shareholders are satisfied with the release and that today the team of 40 people functions excellently and delivers results.

On the other hand, what moves me the most today outside of the business environment are simple things - time spent with family and friends and that gives me balance and clarity, and restores focus, which is crucial in a job that is fast, analytical and full of responsibility. This personal balance enables me to be better and more present professionally.
