The combination of decades of experience and modern technologies has proven to be a winning formula for the success of the Kärcher company, which is celebrating its impressive 90 years of existence this year. Although the market and customer needs have changed over time, Kärcher has continuously succeeded in offering solutions that fit the moment - practical, innovative and necessary.
Today, this family company employs 13,500 people in 130 companies throughout 73 countries, including Serbia. As Suzana Dubajić, general director of the Kärcher company in Serbia, said in an interview with eKapija, the development strategy on the domestic market is based on a simple principle: to be where the customer is. This is precisely why Kärcher centers are places where the brand can be perceived through experience - customers can see, try out and, with expert advice, choose the equipment that suits them best. The company`s goal is not only to increase sales, but to position itself as the first and logical choice, whether it is a small craft workshop or a large industrial system.
Kärcher is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. What are the key factors that have enabled this long-term success and how do you manage to maintain continuity and constant innovation for almost a century?
- The key to our longevity is actually simple - the ability to adapt. During these 90 years, the market and people`s needs have changed drastically, and we have always managed to offer a solution that was needed at that moment. The founder`s legacy means only one thing for us today: we must not rest on our past successes.
We maintain continuity thanks to the stability we have as a family business. This allows us to plan for the long term and develop new technologies without the pressure of having to bring in a quick profit overnight. Simply put, we combine decades of experience with modern technologies, and it`s a recipe that clearly delivers.
Although a family-owned company, Kärcher today employs 13,500 workers in 130 companies and 73 countries. What is the business philosophy behind these impressive numbers?
- Our philosophy is based on decentralization and trust. Even though we are a big system, we consciously try to avoid the sluggishness and bureaucracy characteristic of large corporations. Our employees are not mere executors of orders, but are encouraged to think entrepreneurially and take responsibility for their results.
It is this freedom in decision-making, along with clear goals, that allows us to be fast and efficient in local markets, while at the same time using the power of the global network. The success of 50,000 centers is not accidental, but the result of a clear system in which each individual knows exactly his role and contribution to the company.

From the very beginning, innovation has been the most important factor in the company`s growth, so data shows that around 90% of all products are five years old or less. How does the company strike a balance between innovation and preserving the traditional quality that customers expect?
- For us, innovation is not the opposite of tradition, but rather its logical continuation. Our 1,000 development engineers have a clear mission: to create something new, but not at the cost of quality. We achieve this balance through rigorous testing.
Before any new device hits the market, it goes through durability tests that are often more stringent than real-life conditions of use. In this way, the customer gets modern technology - be it robotics or batteries - but with the reliability that is a given for Kärcher.
Kärcher is also successfully operating on the Serbian market. What are the main strategies for accelerating expansion? To what extent have Kärcher centers and direct sales contributed to strengthening the brand in Serbia?
- Our strategy in Serbia is aimed at being where the customer is. Kärcher Centers are the places where the brand is experienced - where customers can see and try out the machines with expert advice.
On the other hand, direct selling is crucial for our professional sector. Our advisers are in the field every day, in factories and logistics centers, where they offer concrete solutions for specific client problems. The combination of physical presence through stores and active work in the field has proven to be the best path for growth in Serbia.
In addition to innovation, service support is one of the pillars of your business. How does quality service build long-term client trust in Serbia and how do you ensure that your team is always up to the task?
- In our business, service is often crucial. For professional users, the right machine means smooth work. That is why we are investing in a spare parts warehouse in Serbia so that repairs can be made as quickly as possible.
As for expertise, education is a must. Technology is changing rapidly, so our service technicians regularly undergo training and certification. They must know the machines very well in order to quickly solve the problem, because they are the ones who maintain Kärcher`s reputation as a reliable partner.

You have announced a series of innovations for the coming year. Can you tell us what to expect in the household appliance segment, but also what are the trends when it comes to professional machines?
- In the household sector, the focus is on complete freedom of movement. We continue to expand our battery platform where a single battery powers everything - from a lawnmower to a vacuum cleaner. The goal is to save the user`s time, so the emphasis will be on smart robots that take on daily cleaning duties with minimal human assistance.
However, the real revolution is happening in the professional segment. In response to the global labor shortage, we are rapidly developing autonomous robotic cleaning machines (KIRA series). It is no longer futurism, but a necessity for the efficient maintenance of all large areas and high-frequency facilities. In addition, the trend is the digitization of the fleet - managers today want to monitor in real time where the machines are, how much they work and when they need service, in order to optimize operating costs.
What are the company`s main strategic goals in the Serbian market in the next few years?
- Our goal is not only to increase sales, we want Kärcher to be the first and logical choice, whether it is a small craft shop or a large industrial plant.
Strategically, we will focus on three pillars: First, expanding availability - we want to be physically closer to customers in all regions of Serbia, not only in Belgrade. Second, the strengthening of the after-sales ecosystem. Sales are just the beginning. We aim to raise service support standards to a level that the competition cannot match. And thirdly, market education. We want to show the business that investing in quality cleaning equipment is not an expense, but a way to extend the life of their assets and reduce maintenance costs.
